All depends on the work that comes from scientists.
Internal change is hard – but the workshop validated a number of outcomes and work around actor groups.
Outputs are missing a bit.
Simon needs to share his vision of the program to bring together some of the thinking.
It’s not going to be very detailed in terms of action points.
Where we want to be in Nov 2013? A set of outcomes related to the actors. This needs revising still. It’s not going to change massively but there needs to be further prioritization for each of these teams to deliver and not get distracted. We have a role to play in mentoring NBDC teams to get to outcomes. This is where the 2 of us could enable researchers to make this take place. ðCheck with Simon about progress made on Sat.
In CPWF we need to make explicit how far we’ve come.
How far can we go with policy-making change objectives?
In the monthly meetings we have to review the main outcomes and where we are at with them. People came up to the NBDC OLM. Nitty-gritty details take place anyway à Looking across programs with big picture in mind.
What would be inspiring/fascinating to achieve:
Sthg that demonstrates that through NBDC we have tested out the idea of RWM would be more effective with connections between regional and national level policy-making. Making cross-scale links informed by (Bio-Phy/eco-soc) research. Actively working on those connections over the next 8-10 months.
Having a legitimate, good story to tell – which is different from current stories – is a must-have.
- Q: Are we interested in linkages with WLE?
- A: We have no choice. Where are we putting our efforts in seducing CRPs? With WLE we have a real opportunity and we’ll be called upon to play a role in establishing a basin/regional strategy for WLE. CPWF will be asked to facilitate the stakeholder-led regional strategy identification.
- Q: African forum to link with other initiatives?
- A: It could piggy-back on another initiative. à it shouldn’t happen too soon. 3 basins will come first but Nile is not part of it. If CPWF basin leaders feel that there is a real appetite for an Africa Forum, major CPWF donors would likely put some money forward for it. It shouldn’t be a CPWF navel-gazing event but sthg linked to wider regional initiatives/processes.
ILRI will lead CRP 1.2 SRT 1 on situation analysis.
Jan meeting on this SRT. We should try and track the footprint of CPWF impact. There is a link with institutional histories here. What sort of impact assessment / external evaluation might we want to have and what would the CGIAR want to do about it. Would be great to have an external evaluation. CCAFS discovered the importance of that work of which CPWF played quite an influential role.
Make sure we’ve learned – anchor our work in ongoing documentation/stock-taking efforts.
Where are opportunities to target our audiences?
WLE strategic route on basins coming out in 2nd half of 2013 but some insights will come out before.
IP event to follow up on to move to outcome level. Do a writeshop about IP thinking.
September 2013: do an internal event focusing on outputs.
